Dr. Kodur Venkatesh strongly feels that lack of a clear vision and commitment to the pro-people agenda has lead to ad-hoc and unpopular initiatives. The truth is not far to seek. With a faulty Electoral System, where only 40% people vote by taking gratification, there is little hope that things will change. The Tax Payers hard earned money going in for the Luxury and Comforts of Politicians and Corrupt Bureaucrats is deplorable and pathetic. If you go to a village in any part of the country you will find majority of our country men unchanged. While the country boasts of an average nine percent growth rate and we claim self reliance in food, people still suffer from malnutrition, under nutrition and lack of medical care. It is a sad commentary that while the youth of this country are being misused by the Politicians, with fashionable talk about development people in India continue to die of hunger and misery.
The adhocism of the Political Parties speaks of lack of a clear vision with no effort to put in place institutional mechanisms to increase the income of the farmers and prevent indebtedness. These political parties have tried their best to sustain the hope of politics of opportunism that the people will be content with crumbs. The Governments both at the Centre and the State have only succeeded in killing the lower and the middle class with fierceful taxing and making the gap wider in the already existing economic class system. 77% of the population lives at less than Rs.20/- per day with no clean drinking water some Political Parties have the audacity of announcing free Televisions to all the Green Card Holders while basic health care still remains a far cry. While our cities are starved of trained manpower in the skilled and semi-skilled categories, the rural youth remains unemployed frustrated and disillusioned.
Our country is one of the toppers as far is Corruption is concerned and most Indian cities join the proud list of dirtiest cities of the world. Those who have traveled abroad are very well aware of the esteem our country enjoys in the estimation of the world citizens. While our IT industry has touched the greatest world standards in terms of quality and delivery all other industries in India are stagnating creating a gulf of economic disparity. While Scams and Scandals have become the order of the day, Politics of Opportunism, Bureaucratic arrogance, Corruption at its nadir has adversely affected the lives of everybody.
Voter apathy among the middle class and educated persons is our major concern today. If we donâ??#8482;t fight to change the system then who will?
The Political parties have failed in promoting our democratic credentials, failed to hold free and fair elections, tried to interfere with the Freedom of Press and failed to extend Constitutional protection to its own people and with their self-proclaimed achievements, seem singularly weak-kneed when faced with the possibility of illiberal protest or the possible defection of a voting constitutuency.
